Slowness and internet connection
Doc Regia is a web-based add-on that constantly communicates with Google Workspace servers to read your spreadsheet, access templates on Drive, and generate documents. Some behaviors that may look like anomalies are actually related to script loading times or the quality of your internet connection.
The menu appears empty on first click
When you open the Extensions → Doc Regia menu, the entries may appear with a slight delay. Google Sheets loads the add-on’s script on demand, and during the first 1-2 seconds the menu may look empty or incomplete.
- Wait 1-2 seconds: the entries will appear shortly after
- If the menu still looks empty after a few seconds, close it and reopen it
- If the issue persists, reload the Google Sheets page
Panels open slowly
Each Doc Regia panel loads data from your spreadsheet and from the Google Drive and Google Docs APIs. On slow or unstable connections, opening a panel may take a few seconds longer than usual, especially the first time the panel is used in the session.
- Wait until the panel has finished loading before interacting with its controls
- Close unnecessary browser tabs to free up network resources
- Prefer a stable Wi-Fi or wired connection, especially when working with spreadsheets containing many records
Operations that get interrupted or stop responding
Operations such as document generation, form autofill, signing, or ZIP export require the internet connection to hold steady for their entire duration. If the network becomes unstable during the operation, the panel may appear frozen or return an error.
- Make sure your internet connection is active and stable
- If an operation is interrupted, close the panel, reopen it, and run the action again: Doc Regia resumes from where it left off without duplicating documents that were already generated
- For operations involving many records, avoid switching to other tabs or running heavy applications during execution
The Google Drive picker shows a broken image
When you import a file from Doc Regia’s panels and click Open Drive, Google’s picker (Google Picker) opens — the window that lets you browse Drive and choose the document to import. This picker is loaded on demand directly from Google’s servers: if you open it too quickly, before the script has finished initializing, the window may appear empty or show a broken image icon in place of the preview.
- Close the picker window and wait 1-2 seconds
- Click Open Drive again: on the second attempt the picker loads correctly
- If the image stays broken, make sure your internet connection is active and reload the Google Sheets page before trying again
💡 Tip: If the picker keeps showing the broken image, there’s no need to reload the whole page: reopen the sidebar from the Extensions → Doc Regia menu. This reinitializes the script from scratch, and on the next Open Drive the picker loads correctly. The general rule applies: give Doc Regia a couple of seconds to finish loading before clicking Open Drive.
💡 Tip: If the sidebar stays stuck in loading for more than 10-15 seconds, the first thing to try is restarting Doc Regia from the Extensions → Doc Regia menu: close the sidebar and reopen it, so the script reinitializes from scratch. If the problem persists even after restarting, it’s more likely related to the browser cache than to your connection: in that case see Empty Sidebar or Sidebar Stuck Loading.
