Google Daily Quotas and Limits

Google Daily Quotas and Limits

Google Apps Script enforces daily quotas on all operations involving Google services, such as creating documents, reading spreadsheets, and making Drive API calls. These quotas are per user, reset 24 hours after the first request, and vary depending on the type of account.

Key quotas by account type

The quotas most relevant to Doc Regia are:

  • Documents created — 250 per day for Gmail accounts, 1,500 per day for Google Workspace accounts
  • Total trigger runtime — 90 minutes per day for Gmail accounts, 6 hours per day for Google Workspace accounts
  • Maximum runtime per execution — 6 minutes for all account types
  • URL Fetch calls — 20,000 per day for Gmail accounts, 100,000 per day for Google Workspace accounts

The full list is available in the official Google documentation.

How Doc Regia handles these limits

Doc Regia automatically detects the type of account in use (Gmail or Google Workspace) and adapts its behaviour accordingly, applying internal limits that are more conservative than Google’s to avoid reaching the maximum thresholds.

Specifically:

  • Each processing cycle generates a limited number of documents based on the account profile, to always stay within Google’s quotas
  • If the per-cycle limit is reached or the execution time approaches the maximum allowed, processing stops and automatically resumes from the exact point where it left off in the next cycle
  • In case of temporary errors from Google (rate limits, timeouts, service errors), Doc Regia automatically retries with progressively longer wait times. If the error persists after multiple attempts, the row is flagged in the spreadsheet for manual review

What can happen in practice

  • With a Gmail account and many responses to process, generation may take several cycles (and therefore several hours) to complete compared to a Google Workspace account. If you need to generate documents immediately without waiting for the automatic cycle, you can use manual generation directly from the project panel: documents are created on click for the selected rows, and Doc Regia will work in the background, allowing you to continue using the other panels
  • If you use Doc Regia alongside other add-ons or scripts that consume the same quotas, the available capacity for generation is reduced
  • No manual intervention is required: the system handles limits transparently and never stops due to quotas
