Restore Doc Regia data
Before explaining what this function is for, an important premise: Doc Regia is designed so that you never need to directly touch the sheets and tabs of the Google Sheet, nor navigate through Drive folders. Everything you need — creating projects, managing responses, editing templates, archiving, sharing — goes through the add-on panels. The technical tabs (such as DOC REGIA or the project response sheets) are intentionally hidden precisely to prevent accidental modifications. If you follow this flow, you will never need this function.
That said, the Restore Doc Regia data function exists as a safety net for cases in which, despite everything, an unwary hand has deleted or damaged the main Doc Regia sheet inside the Google Sheet.
What it does exactly
Doc Regia automatically keeps a hidden backup copy of the configuration of all your projects (names, form IDs, templates, folders, notification settings, sharing, question mappings, and so on). This copy is updated behind the scenes every time you create or modify a project. The Restore Doc Regia data function uses that copy to bring the main sheet back to its last valid state.
The tool covers two scenarios:
- The main sheet has been deleted entirely — it is recreated from scratch with the correct structure (headers, validations, protections) and repopulated with the backup data
- The main sheet exists but has been modified or damaged (e.g. project rows deleted, cells altered, columns moved) — the content is wiped and replaced with the backup version
When to use it
Run the restore if you notice that:
- The Manage projects panel no longer shows the projects you had configured
- Documents stop being generated automatically for projects that previously worked
- The add-on reports missing configuration errors when you open a panel, for example messages like
No form is registered for this rowor similar indications of unrecognized rows - You or someone with access to the sheet has accidentally modified one of the hidden technical tabs
How to perform the restore
- Open the Google Sheet linked to Doc Regia
- From the top menu go to Doc Regia → Advanced → Restore Doc Regia data
- In the dialog window that appears, click the green Restore button to confirm the operation, or Cancel to exit without changing anything
- Wait for the OK ✅ confirmation at the end of the operation
- Reopen the Manage projects panel to verify that the projects are visible again
What is NOT restored
This function only restores the configuration of the projects, that is the descriptive row of each project in the main Doc Regia sheet. Nothing else is touched:
- The response tabs of each project are not restored: the responses collected by Google Forms remain where they are and do not need a backup, because Google Forms keeps them independently in the source form
- The documents already generated on Drive (project folders, PDFs, destination files) are not touched
- The project templates remain where they are on Drive
⚠️ Important: do not use File → Version history → Restore this version in Google Sheets on the Doc Regia sheet. The native Google version history restores the entire file to a previous state: this would mean deleting form responses received after that date and resetting the document processing state. Always use the Restore Doc Regia data function in the add-on, which is specifically designed to be non-destructive.
💡 Tip: only run the restore if you have actually noticed a problem with the configuration data. Launching it when the sheet is intact does no harm, but it will still rewrite the entire content of the main sheet.
