Manage Template

Manage Template

The Manage Template panel lets you create or link the Google Docs template that Doc Regia uses to generate documents from form responses. Every placeholder in the template is replaced with the corresponding answer when a document is produced.

Opening the panel

Select a project in the Projects Workflow panel, then click Manage template in the Templates section of the right-side action menu.

Template source

At the top of the panel you choose between two modes:

  • Template editor — build a template from scratch directly inside the panel. Three text areas are provided: Header, Body, and Footer / signatures. Each field supports bold, italic, and underline formatting.
  • Existing template — link an existing Google Docs file from your Drive to use as the project template. Doc Regia copies the file into the project folder so the original is never modified.

Placeholders

On the right side of the editor, a list of clickable chips shows all available placeholders derived from the project’s form questions. Click a chip to insert the corresponding {{placeholder}} into the active text field. A special Timestamp placeholder is always available and inserts the date and time the form response was submitted.

Auto-fill from questions

Enable the Auto-fill from questions toggle to insert all placeholders automatically, one below the other, into the Body field. This is the fastest way to set up a basic template — you can then rearrange and format the content as needed.

Include attachment links in doc

When your form collects file uploads, the Include attachment links in doc toggle controls whether direct links to those files appear in the generated document. If disabled, attachments are still collected and stored in the project folder, but the document itself remains clean — and generation is faster.

Once the template is ready, click Generate Template to save it. The template is stored as a Google Doc inside the project folder and is used for every subsequent document generation.

⚠️ Important: When using an existing template, make sure the file is a native Google Doc owned by your account. Templates imported from Word (.docx) may cause formatting issues — especially with tables. If you need to start from a Word file, open it in Google Docs first and verify the layout before linking it.
